Weekly Update March 31, 2014

Good morning Honors Niners!

We have a couple of updates so please look through the information below.

General Body Meeting

The LAST UHP meeting will be this Tuesday, April 1 from 5-6 in Student Union 340 HI. We will be taking nominations for officers at this meeting, so bring ideas of our awesome members that you may want to nominate. (Spring candy & trivia game with prizes is a possibility.)

        Officer Positions

• ​​President- 2 year term & oversees the other officers
• President elect- 2 year term & is in charge of community service
• Secretary- in charge of taking minutes & creating newsletters
• Treasurer- organizes social events
• Historian- documents UHP through pictures and videos

You will vote for future officers online! We will have further details concerning elections at the meeting Tuesday!

Relay For Life

We are 5 days away from Relay For Life on Friday, April 4th starting at 6pm to 6am.

Important Announcement: Relay For Life will now be held in the SAC instead of on the Belk Track. Since we will be inside, there are many new rules that we have to follow and we can no longer deep-fry candy bars. The rules on food are very strict inside a building, so now we will be having a Photo Booth for people to have their photo taken with decorations and our 70s theme. We will have mini printers there, so people can pay for their picture. We will also be selling bags of candy with any of the candy we had already collected.

We will also be selling Krispy Kreme :)

We will need Honors students walking around the track at all time throughout the night. We will also need volunteers to take photos, sell goods, and work at the booth. Please sign up on the google doc to fill all of the volunteer spots.

• ​Please, please take a moment to JOIN our Relay team online. We have over 500 students in the Honors College and only 54 people have joined the team so far. •  ​Everyone who enters the SAC for Relay For Life must have already registered online and paid OR must pay $10 at the door to get in. Please plan to pay at the door (unless you have already registered online)
• When you enter the event you will receive a wrist band and once you have entered, you may not leave and come back in.​
• The doors of the SAC will close after 11:00pm, and NO ONE can enter past 11:00pm! We know this changes our shifts, so we have changed the shift times for the day and for the night.
• We are sorry for all of the changes; they were set in place by UNCC and by the committee. We will understand if this changes your plans.

Time Warner Cable Volunteering

We will be volunteering at the Time Warner Cable Arena with the Bobcats tonight Monday, March 31^st from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. GO BOBCATS!

Crisis Assistance Ministry

We will have one more visit to the Animal Shelter. Be on the lookout for the date & time!

THANK YOU to all who volunteered at the fashion show this past week. We raised around $800 for Relay For Life and we couldn’t have done it without all the help!

Relay For Life:

Hello UHPers!

I hope everyone is recovering from the week after Spring Break and easing back into class nicely. Thank you to everyone who attended the general meeting last week!

Here are some important updates on upcoming events in UHP

Honors Gala

This Saturday, March 22 from 8pm-midnight! The deadline to buy tickets has been EXTENDED to Wednesday, March 19. Tickets are $25 per person. This is the last opportunity to purchase tickets so hurry to the Honors office! The

This is a semiformal with masquerade theme. Have fun and dress up for the event. There will be a DJ, dancing, refreshments, photo booth, and more! Come out and have a good time with your fellow UHPers and other Honors College friends!

 Community Service

Relay for Life: Friday, April 4th starting at 6pm to 6am at either Belk track or the SAC(TBA).

Good Morning Honors Niners!

I hope you all had a great, relaxing Spring Break. Please read the information below about upcoming events in UHP.

General Body Meeting

Our next General Body Meeting is this Wednesday, March 12 from 5-6 p.m. in Cone Center 210. 

It would be a huge help if members could help us by donating candy for Relay. Please bring a bag of Fun-sized Candy Bars (Snickers, 3 musketeers, Twix, Milky Way) with you to the meeting. We will be deep-frying and selling these yummy treats during the night of Relay For Life.

Honors Gala

• Gala ticket sales will end THIS FRIDAY, March 14. They are $25 and can be purchased from the Honors Grad Assistant anytime during normal business hours. The Honors Gala invitation is attached.
• The Honors Gala is on March 22 starting at 8:00pm! This is a semiformal masquerade theme and will cost $25 a person. There will be a Shutterfly Booth, Black Jack tables, a DJ, desserts and much more. It will be at the Speedway club and is well worth the price!

Community Service

·         Thank you to everyone that volunteered, performed and attended the Talent Show put on by the Teaching Fellows. We raised $170 to go towards our goal!

• The list of classes for Fall 2014 is now available on Banner. Check out the course offerings, and get a head start on planning your schedule before priority registration. 
• If you ordered a UHP t-shirt and haven't received it yet, they are available for pick-up in the Honors Office.
