Happy Finals Week Everyone!

I just wanted to send out one last weekly update wishing everyone the best of luck with your finals! I know everyone will do great :)

Please keep an eye out for end of the year surveys...your feedback is important to us! We take all comments into consideration in preparation for the upcoming year.

Also, I wanted to say thanks for a great year everyone! I have thoroughly enjoyed serving as your President and I appreciate all of your contributions in making my two-year term as President-Elect and President a success! I couldn't have done it without you guys.

Lastly, congratulations to my fellow senior graduates! I wish each of you the best of luck with your future endeavors.

I hope everyone has a fantastic summer break!

Hi Honors Niners!!

We’re getting to the home stretch with finals coming up, and we wish you best of luck on your exams.

Thank you to those who came to the Spring Banquet, we had a great time celebrating the year.

Evaluations

            Don’t forget to fill out your professor evaluations, especially for your Honors classes. These are due before Wednesday, April 30 at 11:59pm, and don’t be afraid to be open and honest. Remember that professors get credit based on the amount of students that respond for their class.

Weekly Update April 21, 2014

Greetings everyone!

Hope you had a wonderful, relaxing holiday weekend!  This time of the semester can be very stressful and hectic for everyone...let's try to keep smiling and finish as strong as we possibly can...only a couple more weeks to the finish line! :-)

Here's some updates regarding what's going on in UHP: 

• Elections:  Thanks to everyone who voted in our UHPSA officer elections.  The voting period has now ended and the votes have been tallied.  Results will be announced at the Spring Banquet next Sunday.  Thanks to all of the candidates for your eagerness to serve...we had an amazing slate of people running this year.  You are all winners in my book, and it would be a pleasure and honor to serve with any and all of you next year! 
• Spring Banquet:  This Sunday, April 27 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. in the Cone Center Lucas Room.  The last day to RSVP for this event has already passed.  If you did RSVP, please make sure to come, as we've already ordered all the dinners.  Attire is "Sunday best."  It's sure to be a great night of fellowship, acknowledgements, and fun!
• Community Service: 
• Animal Shelter:  We'll be volunteering here this Friday, April 25 from 8:30 a.m. - 12 noon.  We've had four spots open up, so if you're interested in going and haven't signed-up already, please email me (ajenki47@uncc.edu) to let me know that you'd like to come.  These last four spots will be given on a first come, first serve basis.  The address is 8315 Byrum Drive here in Charlotte (near the airport).  To all volunteers, please make sure to wear comfortable clothes that you wouldn't mind getting dirty, and come ready to have fun with some furry friends!
• OrgSync:  Make sure to upload all your participation to OrgSync, which can be done by following this link and logging in using your NinerNet credentials:  https://orgsync.com/75602/chapter.  We're all required to do at least two community service and one enrichment event per semester, and this will be checked at the end of the semester.  If you have any questions about this, please get in touch with me or one of the other officers. 
• Your Accomplishments:  If you haven't already, please follow this link and list all of your great accomplishments from the past academic year.  Don't be afraid to brag on yourself, and Mrs. R would greatly appreciate your participation!

• UHP Director Search:  Next week, there will be two more candidates for UHP director who will be presenting their visions for our program.  Students are strongly encouraged to attend and give their feedback about the candidates.  Presentations will be held from 1:30-2:30 p.m. in Woodward Hall 125.  The dates are as follows: 
• Monday, April 28:  Dr. Jennifer Warner (Biology Dept.) 
• Tuesday, April 29:  Dr. Oscar Lansen (History Dept.)

Happy Monday Everyone!

I hope each of you had a nice weekend! Only 4 more weeks left! However, we have some exciting events left in store so please pay close attention and make note of the following updates.

*Reminder: The Honors College is searching for a new director of the University Honors Program. The first candidate to present is Dr. Takiyah Nur Amin TODAY (April 14th) at 2:00pm in Woodward Hall 125. Please consider attending the 20-30 minute presentation that will be followed by a Q&A session! The second candidate to present is Dr. Kelly Zellars on Thursday, April 17th at 2:30pm in Fretwell 410.*

1.      Candidate Tea Party

• Join us on April 16th (this Wednesday) from 5-6:15pm and hear your UHP officer candidates speak! Learn about what they envision for the future of UHP!
• Where: Honors Office in Cone
• Refreshments will be provided!
• Candidates-you are in charge of deserts to share!
• Current officers will provide punch!
• Reminder to all candidates: if you will not be able to make the tea party, please find a substitute whom you trust to represent you!

2.      Spring Banquet

• When? Sunday, April 27th from 5-8pm
• Please remember to RSVP! (This is a pre-paid event)
• RSVP by April 17th to the Honors Graduate Assistants (honorsassistant@uncc.edu)
• Graduating seniors: remember to send in your senior info/picture for the Spring Banquet to Carrie Leigh Sutton (HonorsAssistant@uncc.edu)! It is due TODAY (April 14th)!
• If you respond YES...BE THERE!
• Attire: Sunday best!

3.      Community Service

• Mecklenburg County Animal Shelter: We have recruited the maximum number of people allowed to attend this event. Thank you to those who signed-up and enjoy your day of service!

Weekly Update April 7, 2014

Hello Honors Niners!  I hope you are all having a good start to the week!

We will be taking one more trip to volunteer at the Crisis Assistance Ministry​​ on April 12th, from 2:30 to 4:30.  If you would like to go, you can sign up on the google doc: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Av4x7sp1lM45dGdyRk9BakZpUHExMUtqZ3ZjdzFORHc&usp=sharing#gid=0.  If you will need a ride over to Crisis, please make sure to indicate that on the list.  

The other community service event coming up is volunteering at the Mecklenburg County Animal Shelter on Saturday, April 26th, from 8:30 A.M. to noon.  Spaces are limited, so be sure to sign up quickly.  It is also very important that if you sign up, you are sure that you will be able to go that Saturday.  Currently, there are eight spaces still open.  Here is the google doc where you can sign up: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1wx8P-C2KZmRbHQQhvhLYCsDp0FaEZgB-PyNppKG-5Lg/edit​ 

Be on the look-out for email invitations to the Spring Banquet!  The Banquet will be held on Sunday, April 27th, from 5 P.M. to 9 P.M.  This is a really fun event with great food and I recommend that everyone should come.  Whether you can or can't, however, it is very important to respond to the invite.  This allows us to know how many people are coming, and therefore how many meals to order.

Thanks to everyone who volunteered at Relay For Life this past Friday!  We have leftover Krispy Kreme Doughnuts in the honors office in Cone.  Be sure to stop by and grab one!  

Congratulations to all of our nominees for UHP officers!  On April 16th,  from 5 to 6:15 P.M., there will be an elections tea in the honors office in Cone.  We will be serving punch, and each of the nominees should bring cookies/sweets.  This event is open for all UHP members to come, get refreshments, and hear the candidates speak.  For the candidates, if you cannot make it be sure to send someone in your place to speak/bring treats.  Here are the candidates who are running for office:

Weekly Update March 31, 2014

Good morning Honors Niners!

We have a couple of updates so please look through the information below.

General Body Meeting

The LAST UHP meeting will be this Tuesday, April 1 from 5-6 in Student Union 340 HI. We will be taking nominations for officers at this meeting, so bring ideas of our awesome members that you may want to nominate. (Spring candy & trivia game with prizes is a possibility.)

        Officer Positions

• ​​President- 2 year term & oversees the other officers
• President elect- 2 year term & is in charge of community service
• Secretary- in charge of taking minutes & creating newsletters
• Treasurer- organizes social events
• Historian- documents UHP through pictures and videos

You will vote for future officers online! We will have further details concerning elections at the meeting Tuesday!

Relay For Life

We are 5 days away from Relay For Life on Friday, April 4th starting at 6pm to 6am.

Important Announcement: Relay For Life will now be held in the SAC instead of on the Belk Track. Since we will be inside, there are many new rules that we have to follow and we can no longer deep-fry candy bars. The rules on food are very strict inside a building, so now we will be having a Photo Booth for people to have their photo taken with decorations and our 70s theme. We will have mini printers there, so people can pay for their picture. We will also be selling bags of candy with any of the candy we had already collected.

We will also be selling Krispy Kreme :)

We will need Honors students walking around the track at all time throughout the night. We will also need volunteers to take photos, sell goods, and work at the booth. Please sign up on the google doc to fill all of the volunteer spots.

• ​Please, please take a moment to JOIN our Relay team online. We have over 500 students in the Honors College and only 54 people have joined the team so far. •  ​Everyone who enters the SAC for Relay For Life must have already registered online and paid OR must pay $10 at the door to get in. Please plan to pay at the door (unless you have already registered online)
• When you enter the event you will receive a wrist band and once you have entered, you may not leave and come back in.​
• The doors of the SAC will close after 11:00pm, and NO ONE can enter past 11:00pm! We know this changes our shifts, so we have changed the shift times for the day and for the night.
• We are sorry for all of the changes; they were set in place by UNCC and by the committee. We will understand if this changes your plans.

Time Warner Cable Volunteering

We will be volunteering at the Time Warner Cable Arena with the Bobcats tonight Monday, March 31^st from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. GO BOBCATS!

Relay For Life:

We will be volunteering at the Time Warner Cable Arena with the Bobcats on Wednesday, March 26^th and Monday, March 31^st from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. We need 10-15 volunteers to participate and we could raise up to $500 for our Relay team. Remember that any money raised will be split amongst volunteers’ goals.
