Weekly Update February 25, 2013


Greetings UHPer's!  

I hope everyone is having a great week so far! One more until a break! We have a few updates and reminders for you.

Our next general body meeting is on Wednesday, March 13th from 5-6:30pm in the SAC 334A.  Please bring bagged candy to this meeting, there will be another candy sale for Relay on March 20th.  

Fall Registration 
  • Reminder: the Fall 2013 schedule becomes live on Monday, March 4th during Spring Break.  
  • Registration is on Monday, March 25th at 9am.  
  • Make sure you schedule an advising appointment with your advisor to make sure you don't have any holds on your account. 
  • If you have any questions pertaining to Honors, please schedule an advising appointment with an Honors advisor on Banner.
  • If you have any questions, please email Connie Rothwell. 

Relay For Life 
  • Thanks to those who came out to the Boston Market fundraiser!  I hope you enjoyed the good food! 
  • We are in 4th place for our school and more than halfway towards our goal! Thank you to those who have already registered!
  • And to those who haven't registered yet, please register. It is only $10 and goes to a wonderful cause!  If you register and volunteer for a community service event relating to Relay, it will count as a community service (this includes: Couture for a Cure, candy sale, doughnut sale.)   • Relay For Life is on Friday, April 5, 6pm until Saturday, April 6, 6am.  Look forward to sign ups to volunteer at our tent and walk around the track for team.  
  • Also, we will be selling Krispy Kreme Doughnuts from March 11th-14th on campus for $1 each, $5/dozen.  We will also be selling them at our next general body meeting on Wednesday, March 13th. Couture for a Cure 
Black & White Affair: City Lights Edition 
  • Thanks to those who made it to the social events committee meeting this past Friday.  
  • This year the Black & White Affair is on Saturday, April 6th from 7:30pm-11:30pm at the Harris Alumni Center on campus! 
  • Proceeds from the Black & White Affair will go to Relay For Life!
  • If you are interested in volunteering to plan for this event, please contact our treasurer, David Jordan at djorda33@uncc.edu.  We need as much help for this event as well!  
Volunteer Opportunity 
  • The BHP Service Event will be held on March 16th. The events will have their separate times but totaled the day lasts from 8am-3pm. Events include: Humane Society, Habitat Restore, campus cleanup, park cleanup, Hospitality House and Soup Kitchen. You will be able to sign-up under Projects on Moodle. Sarah Yoder and Jessica Connors will be coming to our next meeting on March 13th to talk about this event.

Weekly Update February 18, 2013


Hello everyone!
Please take a few minutes out of your time to update your schedules with some important dates!
OUR NEXT GENERAL MEETING WILL BE HELD ON MARCH 13th! Don't forget to turn in money TODAY if you plan on going to Asheville!
Fashion Show:
· March 22nd, 2013 in Storrs
· We need photographers, so if any of you are interested or you know someone who would be willing to take tons of pictures let us know!

o Need volunteer for: hair, make-up, decorations, bakers needed, and more!

Black and White Affair:
· April 6, 2013 @ 7:30pm-11:30pm

· Email David Jordan at djorda33@uncc.edu if you are interested in joining the Social Events Committee to plan the upcoming Black and White Affair or to simply plan any events you want UHPto be a part of.
· Next committee meeting will be this upcoming Friday, February 22nd from 1:45-3pm in Student Union room 267.

Weekly Update February 4, 2013

Relay for Life

    • After you register, use the tools provided on the website to send out emails to your loved ones and have them make donations on your behalf...we expect everyone to raise at least $50!
  • Game Night
    • Who? UHP
    • What? Game Night with free food and raffle prizes
    • Where? Witherspoon 2nd floor lounge
    • Why? Proceeds benefit Relay!
    • When? Tuesday, Feb. 12 at 8-10 (the day after our next UHP meeting) in the Witherspoon 2nd Floor Lounge
  • Boston Market UHP Night
    • Who? UHP
    • What? Go to Boston Market, tell the cashier that you're with UHP, and 15% of the money taken in will go towards our Relay team!
    • Where? Boston Market Restaurant
    • Why? Proceeds benefit Relay!
    • When? Thursday, Feb. 21 from 4:00-9:30 P.M. drop in
  • Krispy Kreme Donuts
    • Our team will be selling Krispy Kreme Donuts during the week of March 11-15!  Yum!  More info to come later!   

Couture for Fashion
  • Casting Call: If you are interested in modeling for the UHP Fashion Show "Couture for Fashion", be sure to come out for the casting call. Email Alice (aouaneou@uncc.edu) if you are interested but cannot be there at the scheduled time.
    • Who? Anyone who interested (even your friends who aren't in UHP)
    • What? During this time we will take down your sizes, photograph you, and have you do a short practice runway walk. It's very easy so don't be intimidated! Ladies, please wear your favorite heels.
    • Where? Witherspoon 3rd floor lounge
    • Why? To decide which designer(s) you will be representing the show 
    • When? Saturday, February 16 between 2:00-4:00 P.M. drop-in (expect to be there ~30 min.s) 
  • Show: The show will be on March 22, 2013 at 7pm in the Storrs architecture building. It is open to the public so you can start telling your friends and family now about the event!
Need Volunteer Hours? The Department of Housing and Residence Life is proud to announce that UNC Charlotte will host the North Carolina Association of Residence Halls (NCARH) Conference. The conference will take place February 8-10. 
  • They need volunteers like you to donate time, energy, and 49er spirit in a variety of areas, including greeting conference guest, escorting guests across campus, and helping behind the scenes to make sure the conference runs smoothy.
  • How to sign up to volunteer with NCARH?

Room in the Inn? - Some workers associated with Room in the Inn Urban Ministry have asked for a group to come help volunteer one Tuesday night in February or March. The group that goes would stay all night in a church uptown and help feed and lay out beds for the homeless people. Also, some may want to play cards or just talk about their life's/situations.
  • This activity can count towards your community service hours.
