More Updates - September 24, 2012

Four important announcements:

  1. For those of you who knew Jordan Slusher, you will be happy to learn that a Park Bench will be placed on campus as a memorial to one who was a wonderful part of our lives and campus.  If you would like to make a donation for this bench, you can drop off any amount at the Honors College office or deposit it directly at Wells Fargo, check made to the Jordan Slusher Memorial Fund, account number 7965091551.  When the bench is placed, I’ll let you know where it is so you can go and have wonderful discussions and debates there.
  2. If you want to attend the Presidential Courage lecture this Thursday, you may pick up tickets at the Student Union or at the Library.  I think it will be easiest if you access your ticket that way.
  3. Announcements are posted on the UHP webpage under “News and Notes” tab. You can also subscribe to an RSS feed. If you lose an email, check the webpage.
  4. On October 2 from 11-2pm, Find Yourself in Fashion (founder by Honors member Alexandria Williams, now headed by, Roxy Peterson, and advised by Julie Hicks) will be hosting a Pink Day in honor of Breast cancer awareness month in October. Stop by the table in the Student Union to win prizes on October 2 if you wear pink!
  5. Bonus: Campus events and special events are posted on the calendar of the UHP webpage for your convenience and quick reference.
  6.
    Onward!

Other notes:
  • Our Relay for Life team is interested in hearing your ideas for the upcoming event this Spring. If you have any theme suggestions (last year it was Friday the 13th theme), feel free to email me (isteven1@uncc.edu) I will get the information to the right person.
  • Discussion Night last Wednesday was a great success. Thank you everyone who came out to the event, especially the student discussion leaders. Students seemed to really enjoy their discussions of our UHP book Interstices. If you attended the event, please be sure to fill out the survey that was emailed to you.
  • The Scavenger Hunt on Friday was an awesome chance to explore Uptown Charlotte and connect with fellow UHPers. A big thanks to David Jordan for organizing the event and the officers for coming up with some creative clues. If you attended, please, please, please send me your pictures (isteven1@uncc.edu) so that Cassady and I can include them in the upcoming slideshow for the year. I attached a picture of the winning team to the email :). Congratulations!
As always, feel free to email me or any of the other officers with any questions you may have. We are here to help!

Weekly Update September 9, 2012

Hello Honors Niners!

We have many announcements so please take a moment to pay close attention to this e-mail.
First, thank you to everyone who answered the “Leaving Our Mark” survey share. This will still be open until Wednesday, so please respond if you have not already done so.

After some questions about our program requirements, we thought we would give you a friendly reminder of what is expected of you:
Each semester, all members are required to attend at least 1 general meeting, 1 enrichment event, 1 community service event, and 1 food run. If you can not attend a food run, due to a class conflict, you may attend 1 community service event instead (2 community service events total).
We would like to encourage you all to participate in more than these minimum requirements. We take note of those that are actively involved and show enthusiasm for the program. We hope that you can enjoy the program and all the opportunities that it offers.
Please keep track of the activities that you participate in as you will be e-mailed to log these activities at the end of each semester.

Be on the look out for an invite to our Interstices Discussion Night. Curious about how to pronounce interstices? Check out this link (click the speaker next to the word)! http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/interstices?s=t

The memorial service for Jordan Slusher will be September 15th from 6:30 to 9:00 PM in Mcknight hall. Jordan was a great friend and member, so please help us to show our support.

Another survey will be going out, soon, about our UHP trip possibilities, please respond to this when you receive it, as we would like to have your feedback.

Want an opportunity to explore the city?! We will be having a UHP Uptown Scavenger Hunt on Friday, September 21st. This event promises prizes, fun, and beautiful views! If you would like to participate in this event, please meet in the Witherspoon lobby at 3:30 PM. We will carpool and the hunt will last until 6:00 PM unless you would like to stay for dinner uptown.

Lastly, we want to encourage everyone to take the initiative to run events/activities. We know that many of you feel strongly about specific activities and we are open to new ideas that you may want to start.

Have a wonderful week!!
