Community Service Opportunities
- 49ers for Life Blood Drive: This is TODAY! Even if you didn't make an appointment but still want to give, please still go to the SAC at your convenience today as they always accept tons of walk-ins every year. All donors get lots of free goodies, including t-shirts, ice cream, etc., along with the warm feeling that you helped another human being in an incredible way. It will be running until 7:00 p.m. tonight.
- Hospitality House of Charlotte: We will be going next Friday (Jan. 31), and need at least ten people to sign-up for it to be a success, so we are in desperate need of more people for this. Please email me (ajenki47@uncc.edu) if you need transportation. https://docs.google.com/a/uncc.edu/document/d/1wx8P-C2KZmRbHQQhvhLYCsDp0FaEZgB-PyNppKG-5Lg/edit
- Crisis Assistance Ministry: We will be going on Feb. 1, and all of the spots for that day have already been taken. However, I just added in the March 1, March 15, and April 12 dates to the Google Doc so please go ahead and sign-up for those spots before they're all gone! We can take a maximum of 25 people on each trip, and it's always a blast! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Av4x7sp1lM45dGdyRk9BakZpUHExMUtqZ3ZjdzFORHc&usp=sharing#gid=0
- Animal Shelter: Going on Feb. 22 from 8:30 to 11:30. We can take a maximum of 20 people, so there are only a couple spots left! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Av4x7sp1lM45dDNhblFCWi15dnRURklJNHprT19iT1E&usp=sharing#gid=0
- Volunteering @ MS Society Walk: This is all day on Friday, Feb. 28, and we need a lot more people! There is no maximum. Other Goings-On and General Announcements
- Here's a message from the 49er Dance Mine Committee. Please see the attached application that goes along with it!
- Do you want to get more involved in next year's Dance Marathon? We are looking for students who are passionate about Dance Marathon to fill leadership positions for the upcoming year. Dance Marathon is entirely student run, from the catering to the music, and there is sure to be an opportunity for you! Attached is the 2014 Leadership Application. If you are interested in a leadership position with Dance Marathon, whether on the Executive Board or as a Committee Chair, please email your completed application to 49erdancemine.uncc@gmail.com. All applications are due next Friday, January 24th and interviews for finalists will be scheduled during the week of February 3rd - 7th. Please contact Caitlin Vaverek at cvaverek@uncc.edu with any questions about the application. Also, if you haven't already done so, please complete this 10-question survey about your experience with Dance Marathon 2013. Whether or not you attended, your opinion is valued! With your help we can exceed the $35,000 raised last year FTK (For The Kids)!
- Don't forget to submit your work and questions to Kyle McGee (kmcgee4@uncc.edu or in-person at Witherspoon 313) for the Valentine's Day Edition Newsletter! Please feel free to brag about yourself, write about your experiences/perspectives, and/or submit your questions (about anything) to be answered by Norm!
- Please stock-up on fun-sized candy bars (specifically Snickers, 3 Musketeers, Milky Ways, Twix, Reese's Cups, and Butterfingers). Please bring these to the next UHP meeting on Feb. 10!
- Here's a message from our UHP Treasurer Ashley Lea regarding an upcoming enrichment event she has planned:
- I just wanted to let you all know of a UHP event that I am planning forSaturday, Feb 1st at Xtreme Ice Center! There is an Ice Show called " Skating Dreams" from 6-7pm. There is, also, a public session following the show from 7:30-9:20 that night. I thought it would be a really fun opportunity for everyone to get out to see a figure skating show, and maybe skate some ourselves right after the show. The cost of the show is $10 per person and proceeds go to the Leukemia and Lyphoma society. The cost of the public skating session and skate rental combined is $8 total. I encourage everyone to take advantage of this opportunity for the sole reason that it will be a fun way to hang out with your fellow UHP members, and a perfect way to celebrate the upcoming Winter Olympics! It would also count as an enrichment or social event! Please email me with any questions and concerns. Also, please respond to me via email (alea@uncc.edu) ASAP if you are planning on attending. I would like to have a total by this Friday. I am personnally really excited about this!
- Location: 4705 Indian Trail Fairview Rd., Indian Trail, NC, 28079 (About 25 min. from campus)
- Act fast! We want to reward people who read the update thoroughly, so the first two people who email me (ajenki47@uncc.edu) with the date of the Honors College Fashion Show will win a special prize! :-)
- Please don't forget to join the UHP OrgSync group and upload your community service and enrichment events to it. OrgSync can be accessed through this link (https://orgsync.com/login/university-of-north-carolina-charlotte) and we ask that you use the timesheet feature (listed under the "Events" tab) to upload your time for approval. Please let us know if you have any questions about this process. If you have participation from last semester that you still haven't uploaded yet, please do so ASAP. This is our primary way of tracking your community service and enrichment participation. It is important to give yourself credit for the great work you do, and members who do not participate will losethe benefits associated with being a UHP member in good standing, such as priority registration. We don't want to see this happen to a single person, so please take advantage of opportunities to participate and make sure you are getting credit for the work you do!
- Here's information regarding the 2014 Honors College Gala. It's certainly going to be an event to remember! Also see the attached "Save the Date" Card.

- Location: Charlotte Motor Speedway
- Time: 8:00 p.m. -- 12:00 a.m.
