Weekly Update September 9, 2013

Greetings...hope everyone had a great weekend!

Thanks to everyone who attended our "Food Truck Friday" enrichment event...we had a blast!  Pictures have been uploaded to our Facebook Group.  If you haven't joined the group yet, please join ASAP to keep up with the latest events/updates:   https://www.facebook.com/groups/2201519208/.  This is an open forum and is a good place (along with our UHP blog) for members to communicate with each other regarding upcoming events and opportunities.

If you haven't done so already, please subscribe to the "Honors Niners 2013-2014" page on Moodle 2.  This can be found under the "Projects" tab and is important because it provides you with access to the UHP blog, our forums (news and social), and your personal attendance record. We also ask everyone to upload a profile picture to Moodle 2.  That way, we'll be able to recognize each other's faces and will no longer look like smiling yellow buttons with shades!

Our UHP "Wine to Water" Discussion Night is coming up on Monday, Sept. 16 from 5-7:30 in Cone 210.  We are very pleased to have Delbridge Narron joining us at this event as our guest speaker.  A free dinner will be served and it's sure to be a great time exploring a great book!  Please complete the SurveyShare (http://uncc.surveyshare.com/s/AYAMAAC) prior to this Wednesday to let us know if you'll be able to make it.

The Black Mountain Retreat has been rescheduled and will now be held October 25-27.  The non-refundable $50 deposit is now due to the UHP Office in Cone by Wednesday, Sept. 25.  This is a priceless opportunity and is highly recommended for anyone available to attend.  We'll be returning Sunday afternoon, so anyone who needs to study will have the opportunity to do so.

UHP is partnering with the Center for Leadership Development (2nd floor in the Student Union) for the 2013 Charlotte Walk to End Alzheimer's.  Registration is free and can be completed through the following link:  http://act.alz.org/site/TR?pg=team&fr_id=3522&team_id=179849.   This community service event is being held on Sept. 28 (see link for more details) and is great fun for a great cause!

Habitat for Humanity is holding their "Mining for 49" fundraising event this Friday from 2-5 in the CHHS/COED Courtyard.  UHP will be participating in the build being held from Oct. 1-11...more details to come later!  If you are interested in getting more involved with Habitat for Humanity, contact Maggie Chahoud at mchahoud@uncc.edu.

The 49er Dance Mine (which raises money for the Levine Children's Hospital) is being held from 7:00 p.m. on Nov. 15 through 7:00 a.m. on Nov. 16.  This is the first year we've had a dance marathon at UNC Charlotte, and we ask you to join our UHP team (registration is $10) through the following link:  http://www.helpmakemiracles.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.team&teamID=18975.  If you're interested in helping plan this exciting event, contact Caitlin Vaverek at cvaverek@uncc.edu

We'll be sending out information regarding more community service and enrichment events soon.  Our plans include volunteering with Crisis Assistance Ministry, participating in the Color Run being held on Oct. 19, Relay for Life, etc.  Remember that all UHP members are expected to participate in enrichment and community service events each semester in order to maintain good standing.

Our next UHP General Body Meeting will be held on October 2 from 4:00-5:00 in Cone 210.  If you haven't completed the SurveyShare (http://uncc.surveyshare.com/s/AYAMAFByet, it must be completed by this Wednesday.  Congrats to Jessica Stewart, who won the drawing (prize was an iTunes gift card) that was held among students who had completed the SurveyShare by noon last Friday.

Have a fantastic week UHP!  Email me or one of the other officers with any questions, concerns, or suggestions you may have!

Austin Jenkins, UHP President-Elect
